‘Age of Miracles’ Focus of One City, One Story

A story about the decline of a family and its world is selected as the city's book selection for its annual literary celebration.

Pasadena’s 11th One City, One Story community reading celebration selects The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker for its March 2013 celebration.

The literary celebration is aimed at broadening and deepening an appreciation for literature within the community. 

The Age of Miracles is Walker’s fiction debut about coming of age during an era of profound uncertainty.

In the story, Julia and her family awaken in their San Diego suburb on a Saturday morning to discover, along with the rest of the world, that the earth’s rotation has started to slow.

The novel details how one girl’s world, her family and environment, is thrown into disarray.

Walker, a San Diego native who currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, earned the 2011 Sirenland Fellowship and the Bomb Magazine fiction prize.

A community dialogue with the author is scheduled Thursday, March 14. Book discussion groups, film series, lectures and other events will be hosted throughout the Pasadena community. Dates and locations will be announced in the near future, according to a city press release.
