Man Shot to Death in Pasadena's Was Brother of Laker's Legend

PASADENA, CA — A man shot to death in a Pasadena park was the brother of a legendary Los Angeles Lakers player.

Former L.A. Laker Michael Cooper confirmed to ABC7 that his brother Mickey Cooper was the victim of that shooting. The Medical Examiner's office confirmed 64-year-old Mickey Cooper died in a park.

Around 4:10 a.m. Saturday, police responded to Washington Park, in the 700 block of West Washington Boulevard, where a man was found with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Pasadena city spokesperson Lisa Derderian. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michael Cooper, a member of the world champion Lakers during the 1980s' Showtime era, told ABC7 that he and his brother played basketball at that park when they were children.

There was no suspect information or known motive, Derderian said. An investigation was ongoing.
