Pasadena Police To Conduct DUI Operation

Police in Pasadena want the community to know they'll be on the lookout for impaired drivers Friday night.

PASADENA, CA — Pasadena police will be out in force Friday evening on the lookout for motorists driving while impaired.

The nine-hour enforcement effort will begin at 6 p.m., Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman said.

Extra patrols will be assigned to areas in the city "with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests," Goodman said.

Also, officers plan to conduct a "Know Your Limit" program at various locations in the city's entertainment district, Goodman said. The officers will contact club and bar patrons and offer them an opportunity to take a breath test to determine their blood alcohol level, Goodman said.

"For most, it's common knowledge that the legal blood-alcohol limit for operating a motor vehicle in the state of California is less than .08 percent," Goodman said. "However, many people might not realize how much alcohol -- or more importantly how little alcohol -- it takes to get to (a level of) .08 percent or more."

The program is designed as an educational opportunity "to encourage groups to designate a sober driver and make good choices," Goodman said.

Funding for the "Know Your Limit" program is provided to the police department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
