Soropimists Honor Women Who Live Their Dream
A local newspaper editor and a college student who overcame homelessness were among those honored at the annual "Live your Dream" luncheon.

The members of the Soroptimist International of Altadena/Pasadena honored three local women for their impact on their communities.
The women were honored in the fourth annual “Live Your Dream” luncheon at the Women’s City Club April 24.
Among the honorees was Pasadena Star-News editor Jackie Knowles, who was awarded the Ruby Award, which pays tribute to those who have enriched the lives of women through their professional and volunteer work. Knowles currently serves on the board of the League of Women Voters and Women Issues Committee of All Saints Church, according to the Pasadena Star-News.

She was also instrumental in developing the Women’s Room at Friends in Deed in Pasadena, a refuge center for homeless women.
San Marino resident Elizabeth Claire Lambert received the Violet Richardson award, given to individuals between the ages 14 and 17. For her Girl Scout Gold Award Project, Lambert decided to remodel a spare room at Eliot Middle School in Altadena where here mother works as a teacher. The room would serve as a much-needed private space for counseling sessions.

A third award, the Women’s Opportunity Award, was given to Philandria M. Brown, a single mother and full-time student at Pasadena City College who overcame periods of homelessness.
Each of the awardees were given recognitions from city, county and state officials, as well as cash awards.
