Woody Hayes, Alan Ameche, Bob Jeter Finalists for Rose Bowl Game All-Century Class

The late Ohio State coach Woody Hayes, former Wisconsin fullback Alan Ameche and former Iowa halfback Bob Jeter were announced today as finalists from the 1950s for the Rose Bowl Game All-Century Class.

Hayes coached the Buckeyes to eight Rose Bowl games and four victories, both tied for second all-time.

Ameche ran for 133 yards on 28 carries in Wisconsin's 7-0 loss to USC in the 1953 Rose Bowl. Ameche won the 1954 Heisman Trophy and scored the winning touchdown for the Baltimore Colts in overtime in the 1958 NFL Championship Game, dubbed as "The Greatest Game Ever Played."

Jeter ran for 194 yards on nine carries in Iowa's 38-12 victory over California in the 1959 Rose Bowl, setting records for rushing yards, yards per carry, 21.6, and the longest run, 81 yards.

A set of players and coaches representing each decade selected by a committee of members of the Football Writers Association of America will be announced each Sunday throughout the remainder of college football's regular season in connection with the 100th Rose Bowl Game.

The committee will select one representative from each decade for the All-Century Class, which will be announced Dec. 8, along with one player and one coach selected as the greatest in the history of college football's oldest bowl game.
