1 Injured In Suspected DUI Crash In Petaluma

PETALUMA, CA — DUI is suspected in a crash Wednesday night in Petaluma that sent one person to the hospital with injuries and shut down Lakeville Highway, the Petaluma Police Department said.

A community member called 911 at 9:28 p.m. Wednesday to report the collision at Frates Road and Lakeville Highway, Petaluma police Sgt. Zilverio Rivera said.

Officers found two cars in the middle of the intersection, with one person suffering from injuries.

When officers spoke with one of the drivers, 63-year-old Phillip Chaney of Bellevue, it was alleged he displayed signs of being intoxicated by alcohol.

While a DUI investigation was conducted, the injured person was taken by ambulance by the Petaluma Fire Department to a local medical facility.

The officer determined Chaney was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest, Rivera said.

Chaney was taken to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility after he was medically cleared and was booked on suspicion of DUI collision with injury.

Lakeville Highway was reopened around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Jail records showed Chaney was still in custody Thursday morning with his bail set at $100,000.
