A Tale of Two Shopping Centers

Things are starting to take shape over at the East Washington Place Center.

Construction equipment and developers are fast at work in order to meet the summer 2013 opening date of the shopping center that will feature Target, a Sprouts grocery store, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Chipotle and many other retailers according to this story on Petaluma 360.com.

Developers expect to employ about 100 people, once construction on the buildings begins in October; today, roughly 20 to 30 people are working on the site each day project manager Wes Barry told the Argus.

According to the story, Petaluma’s Planning Director Geoff Bradley said the city expects to begin issuing building permits for the various stores "any day now."

Across the freeway at the future site of Friedman’s Home Improvement, it’s a different story. Construction on the Friedman’s site located near Petaluma Valley Hospital was supposed to be in full swing by now.

However, the developers of the 346,000 square foot Deer Creek Village shopping center fell short of their predicted summer 2013 opening date, pending final approval of the project’s design plan expected to go in front of the planning commission in August.

For now, Petaluma's largest parcel open for development remains vacant.
