Attack On Petaluma Man Gets Santa Rosa Suspect Arrested For Felony Assault

Sonoma County deputies arrested a 51-year-old Santa Rosa man for felony assault after he hit a Petaluma man over the head with a metal pipe.

PETALUMA, CA -- Deputies arrested a 51-year-old Santa Rosa man on Sunday for felony assault after hitting an acquaintance over the head with a metal pipe in Petaluma.

The altercation started at about 8:20 am March 19 when the victim, a 46-year-old Petaluma man, was visiting with friends at a home in the 300 block of King Rd in Petaluma. The victim told deputies Donald Giannini entered a bedroom, approached him from the rear, and struck him over the head with a metal pipe.

The victim was rushed to Petaluma Valley Hospital with a significant laceration to the head. He was treated and later released.

The victim told deputies that Giannini was upset with him over a recycling dispute where the victim took metal to the recycling center on Saturday that may have belonged to Giannini.

Giannini was located at his sister’s home in Santa Rosa at about 1 pm and was arrested without incident. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing great bodily injury.

He also has several warrants on other pending criminal cases and is being held on $385,000 bail.
