The Best Ice Cream In Sonoma County, As Chosen By Patch Readers

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — We asked for recommendations on the best places for ice cream in Sonoma County, and boy, did some of you answer.

Unfortunately, there's no consensus on where the best scoop is. But Patch readers had lots of recommendations. Now we see why San Francisco was ranked the No. 2 "Best City For Ice Cream Lovers" by LawnStarter. With over three ice cream vendors per square mile, the City by the Bay and its surrounding cities sure do love ice cream!

If you're looking to try a new ice cream spot on National Ice Cream Day, Sunday, July 16, here's a list of some favorites from our readers (in no particular order). And some reasons why these places stand out.

Screamin' Mimi's, Sebastopol

Lesli Fredericks has lived in Petaluma for more than 12 years yet chose Screamin' Mimi's as her favorite.

"I have to say, hands down, Screaming Mimi's has the best ice cream (and cones for what it's worth)," Lesli wrote in an email to Patch. "I am willing to make the drive to Sebastopol to have their ice cream. The proportion of ice cream to mix-ins is perfect, as is scoop size to cone, so you really feel the value in getting your money's worth. They're also flexible with the amount of flavors you choose for your cone, which is nice when you want to have more than one. The variety of regular flavors (many chocolate options!) is consistent with plenty of seasonal flavor options (olive oil is my husband's favorite). And the vegan options are plentiful, which has been a huge asset since my son was allergic to dairy for most of his childhood. Thanks for asking!"

As for ice cream places in Petaluma, Lesli said her daughter, if given a choice, prefers Fruta for its large portions and her son prefers Yogurtland for the toppings.

Her children also like Angela's Organic Cookies and Cream (vegan and regular), and her husband enjoys Angela's Almond Joy (both vegan and regular).

Another fan of Screamin' Mimi's is Rohnert Park-Cotati Patch reader LeAnn. Her favorite choice at Mimi's? A sundae with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and nuts.

Mariapilar Ice Creamery, Petaluma

Kelly McRae told Petaluma Patch on Facebook that Mariapiliar is her favorite because "It’s the best handcrafted."

J. Grand in an email to Patch also said Mariapilar was their favorite.

Baskin Robbins, Petaluma

"We like a family night at Baskin Robbins," Freedom Rocha wrote on Petaluma Patch's Facebook page.

So we checked into it and it appears the Baskin Robbins at 60 E. Washington St. in Petaluma offers special deals for Family Night, every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A good deal on ice cream makes it even sweeter in our opinion!
