Christmas Morning At Shollenberger Park: Photos Of The Day
Patch loves photos! Share your photos with your local Patch, and your work could be featured.
PETALUMA, CA — Patch reader Vicki French took these photos on Christmas morning before the sun broke through the clouds at Shollenberger Park in Petaluma, looking south.
Shollenberger Park is a 165-acre open space area that is both the largest and most visited park in Petaluma. Along with the neighboring Alman Marsh and Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility, the area is commonly referred to as the "Petaluma Wetlands" because of its unique ecosystem and location next to the Petaluma River.
Patch recently reported that the southern part of Shollenberger Park has been mostly closed to the public since October when PG&E started a gas pipeline replacement project beneath the Petaluma River. PG&E expects to complete the work on the first phase of the project by the end of this week, and then start work again in September to avoid disrupting bird breeding and nesting activity that often occurs during the spring and summer months.

"Due to the recent storms and flooding at the park, PG&E has not been able to complete the final phases of our work on the planned schedule," PG&E North Coast spokesperson Megan McFarland told Patch. "We are making up for lost time by scheduling weekend work as appropriate. However, it looks like our work will not be completed until January 27."
Thanks so much for sharing these lovely images, Vicki!
