Distracted Driving Crackdown In Petaluma Yields 39 Citations Friday

Police are on the lookout for people using their cell phones while driving in Petaluma.

PETALUMA, CA — In a day-long crackdown on distracted driving Friday, police made 49 traffic stops and issued 24 citations for cell phone use, according to the Petaluma Police Department.

Three motorcycle officers patrolled the city as part of a distracted driving enforcement operation, conducted by Petaluma police as part of its ongoing Office of Traffic Safety Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant, according to a release.

The 49 traffic stops were made between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. In addition to the 24 cell phone citations, officers also issued 15 speeding citations, according to police.

Petaluma police are in a "mobilization period" against distracted driving between April 3 and 10 as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, police said.
