Driver Killed After Hitting Tree Off Of 101 Freeway

The driver was identified as a 58-year-old male out of Ukiah​.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A driver died Saturday afternoon after his car struck a redwood tree off of southbound 101. California Highway Patrol said the incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. at the Mendocino Avenue crossing.

The driver, a 58-year-old male out of Ukiah, apparently drove off the road and struck a redwood tree. He was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident prompted a brief closure of the area.
