Grass Fire Shuts Down Highway 116 Near Petaluma

A vegetation fire near Petaluma has shut down a section of a state Highway 116, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The fire near Stage Gulch and Adobe roads, east of Petaluma, was reported at 3:32 p.m., a Cal Fire dispatcher said.

The blaze charred 10 acres before it was contained at 4:17 p.m., the dispatcher said.

She said crews remained in the area as of 5 p.m.

As of about 7 p.m., 10 to 11 acres had burned and the roadway was still blocked by downed power lines.

CHP Officer Peter Van Eckert said Highway 116 was shut down in both directions at Adobe Road because of the nearby blaze.

A Sig-alert was issued at 3:54 p.m., according to the CHP.

There is no estimate when the road will reopen, he said.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes through the area, he said.
