Mental Exam Ordered for Petaluma Woman Involved in Hit-and-Run Killing

PETALUMA, CA -- A woman charged with the recent hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in Petaluma has been ordered to undergo an exam to determine her mental competence.

June Angelique Humphrey, 48, of Petaluma, delayed entering a plea Thursday, Feb. 16 in Sonoma County Superior Court. A hearing on the doctor's exam is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Humphrey's charged with the hit-and-run death of Linda Bartizal, 70, of Rohnert Park, who died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. Petaluma police said Humphrey struck Bartizal with her vehicle on South McDowell Boulevard at Caulfield Lane.

Witnesses said Bartizal was crossing South McDowell Boulevard against a red light, and the driver of a van stopped, then quickly turned right after the collision, according to police.

Bartizal suffered a severed spinal cord, broken ribs, a punctured lung and a fractured pelvis, police said.

Humphrey turned herself in at the Petaluma Police Department on Feb. 14. She's being held in the Sonoma County Jail under $30,000 bail.
