Mother, Son Found Dead In Santa Rosa Apartment: Police

The unexplained deaths of a woman and a boy approximately 10 years old were being investigated.

PETALUMA, CA — A woman and a boy believed to be her son were found dead Wednesday in a Santa Rosa apartment, police said.

The Santa Rosa Police Department responded at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday to a call about two people who were possibly dead in an apartment in the 500 block of Summerfield Road, near Montgomery Drive, Sgt. Patricia Seffens said.

Officers went to the residence and found the woman and boy both dead. The boy appeared to be around 10 years old, the sergeant said.

"It is believed they are mother and son," Seffens said.

The cause of death was still under investigation Wednesday afternoon.

Police said there was no known threat to public safety.

Detectives with both the SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team, which is responsible for investigating unexplained adult deaths, and the SRPD Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Team, which is responsible for investigating the unexplained deaths of juveniles, responded and continued to investigate the deaths.

"We hope to learn more about the cause of death following autopsies, which are expected to occur later this week," Seffens said. "The names of the deceased will not be released at this time."
