Motorcyclist Crashes, Dies After Fleeing From Authorities: Police

A man died Sunday evening after an officer involved incident in Petaluma, according to police.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- A motorcyclist died Sunday evening after an officer involved incident in Petaluma according to police.

Officers responded to area of Adobe Creek Drive and South Ely Boulevard at 5:15 p.m. on April 2 after reports of two motorcycles speeding up and down the streets.

Upon arrival, officers said they located the two motorists near South Ely Boulevard and Frates Road, but as they were approached both bikes allegedly sped off heading south on Frates Road.

As the two motorists fled, an officer said he saw one of the motorists lose control of his bike and crash. Police said the officer began administering medical aid while an ambulance responded to the scene.

According to police, the second motorist drove back to the scene and was detained and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The motorist that crashed suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel, police said.

His name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The Sonoma County Law Enforcement Chiefs' Association Employee-Involved Fatal Incident Protocol was contacted and the California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
