Oil Spill Response Deployed For Partially Sunken Vessel At Marina

A boat partially sunk at the Petaluma Marina Sunday, and crews are working to prevent potential oil contamination of the Petaluma River.

PETALUMA, CA — A partially sunken vessel at the Petaluma Marina prompted an oil spill response Sunday by the Petaluma Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the report of the sunken vessel at 1:12 p.m. and deployed the department's oil spill response trailer, along with an inflatable rescue boat and an oil containment boom to prevent potential contamination of the Petaluma River, according to the Petaluma Fire Department.

An initial assessment by firefighters did not detect any leaking fuel or oil.

The U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were notified about the incident at the marina, which is located at 781 Baywood Drive.

The owner of the boat is working with the marina's manager to complete its recovery and removal.
