Petaluma Barista Finalist in Peet's National Competition

A barista from the Washington Square Peet's Coffee and Tea in Petaluma is one of three finalists in the company's National Barista Competition, and will compete Thursday in Alameda.

Tara Boccaleoni, who has worked for the company for two years, will face off against baristas from Encinitas and Half Moon Bay. They're competing for a trip to see a coffee-bean-growing facility in Costa Rica, and a donation to a charity of their choice.

Boccaleoni's chosen nonprofit is the Hospice of Petaluma, and if she wins Peet's will donate $1,000 to that organization.

The competition, which will be held at Peet's Alameda Roasting Facility, gives each participant 15 minutes to make an espresso, a cappuccino and a drink of their choice.

"In addition to how the drinks taste and look, finalists will be judged on service and presentation, workflow, cleanliness, consistency and resource management," Peet's said in a press release.

Four judges will determine the winner.
