PETALUMA, CA -- A Petaluma resident found an unpleasant surprise in the bushes of their front yard last weekend: two hand grenades.
Just before 2 pm on Saturday, March 18, the Petaluma Police Department received a report that two hand grenades had been found by a resident in the 200 block of McNear Circle. The resident said that they discovered the suspected hand grenades under a bush in the landscaping of their front yard.
Officers arriving on scene located the two suspected hand grenades and notified the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordinance Disposal team, which responded to the scene and collected both suspected hand grenades. Both of the suspected hand grenades appeared to have been live devices at one time but had since been rendered inert.
