PG&E Crews Inspecting Meters Throughout Sonoma County In May, June

In response to customers asking whether people on their property are legit, PG&E says its workers are inspecting gas meters in May and June.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- Pacific Gas & Electric crews are inspecting gas meters this month and in June, the utility is saying in response to customers' inquiring whether the person on their property really is a PG&E employee, according to utility spokeswoman Deanna Contreras.

"If they are wearing a PG&E hardhat and vest and say they are checking the gas meter and have proper contractor identification, then it is us. Workers will never need to enter your home," Contreras said.

Contract workers, who are expected to inspect about 100,000 residential and commercial gas meters, will carry photo identification and fact sheets that will be presented on request, Contreras said, adding that they'll also have a mobile phone or tablet to take photos and will be wearing a PG&E hardhat, safety vest and shirt with a logo.

The meter inspections are not expected to affect gas service. If the meter cannot be accessed, PG&E will inspect the meter at a future date, Contreras said.
