SMART Announces Overnight Work Near Petaluma North Station
Construction personnel will take measures to reduce the duration of the bells as much as possible to limit impacts, SMART said.

PETALUMA, CA —Overnight work is scheduled this Friday near the Petaluma North SMART station, the Sonoma Marin Area Transit Agency announced late Wednesday afternoon.
The construction work is set to start at 10 p.m. Friday, March 21, and continue through the night until 7 the next morning, Saturday, March 22 on Ely Road near the railway.
Community members may see flashing lights and hear audible bells periodically throughout the work. Construction personnel will take measures to reduce the duration of the bells as much as possible to limit impacts, SMART said.

Traffic control measures will be in place, allowing vehicles to pass through as directed, SMART said. Drivers are asked to use caution and follow the directions of traffic control personnel.
Patch has reached out to SMART about what the construction entails. According to Julia Gonzalez, spokesperson for SMART, the work involves the installation of traffic signal equipment as part of the Petaluma North station and the new SMART Pathway segment connecting Southpoint Boulevard in Petaluma to Main Street Penngrove.

"During this work we will test the new traffic signals and railroad warning devices," Gonzalez told Patch. "The testing will be completed during evening hours when trains are not operating for regular passenger service."
