Toy and Hobby Store Fundemonium Holding Grand Reopening

A franchise toy and hobby store in Petaluma is going independent. 

Fundemonium, which opened 10 years ago and was previously known as Hobby Town USA, will hold a grand reopening Oct. 12 and 13.

"Fundemonium carries forward our vision of a complete family fun experience where everyone can find the supplies and expertise to support their creative pastimes as well as gather as a community of similar interests and participate in fun activities,” a press release quoted co-owner Steven Elliot as saying.

Co-owners Steven and Jean Elliot plan to give away $1,000 in merchandise through free drawings and more than $2,000 through a "Build a FunBot" competition during the reopening event.

The store is located at 171 N McDowell Blvd.

Petaluma, CA September 30, 2013. Steven and Jean Elliott, proprietors of Fundemonium!™, announce they will be giving out over $3,000 in prizes and merchandise to celebrate the grand re-opening of their newly independent toy, hobby, and game experience – Fundemonium!™. Over $2000 in prizes will be awarded in the “Build a FunBot” competition and merchandise in excess of $1000 will be given out in free drawings during the event.

Ten years ago, Petaluma residents Steven and Jean Elliott left their high-tech jobs to open a franchised hobby store in Petaluma. Right from the start they were a bit different with a greater focus on toys, crafts, and activities than typical in most hobby stores. “We wanted a place that offered creative fun for everyone in the family,” said the Elliotts.

After successfully completing their original contract the Elliotts decided it was time to make their business truly local and independent. Steven Elliott says, “Fundemonium carries forward our vision of a complete family fun experience where everyone can find the supplies and expertise to support their creative pastimes as well as gather as a community of similar interests and participate in fun activities.”

An example of the Elliotts' commitment to fun community activity is seen in their store calendar. “We have a fun event happening at the store nearly every day,” says Jean Elliott. Since the start of 2013 the Elliotts have hosted nearly 30 hobby club meetings; offered more than 30 special events like game tournaments, play days, and model building days; provided space for 4-H and Cub Scout meetings, and brought fun activities to other community events like the American Graffiti Cruise-in, Sonoma-Marin Fair, and the Redwood Empire Train Show. All this is in addition to regular weekly events for game play andKidtivities. The Elliotts are also primary sponsors of the annual Hobby Expo held in February at the Petaluma Community Center.

Steven and Jean invite everyone to help them celebrate 10 years of fun and the renewal of their business as Fundemonium!TM on Saturday Oct. 12th and Sunday Oct.13th. They will host Susan McKinley Ross (creator of the game Qwirkle) and Micheal McGinnis (inventor of the Perplexus maze) on Sunday. Both days will feature free workshops, radio control test-drives, crafts, and demonstrations. Local merchants like Fru-Ta Ice Cream, Old Chicago Pizza, and others will be there with samples and treats. Merchandise will be given away in free drawings both days and over $2000 in prizes will be awarded in the Build a FunBot contest on Sunday afternoon.
