License Plate Readers, Home Security Cameras on Safety Committee Agenda
The Piedmont Public Safety Committee on Thursday will discuss the proposal to install license plate cameras at city entrances and exits and also home or private surveillance camera systems.

Public discussion of enlisting more cameras in Piedmont's anti-crime efforts continues this week with the Public Safety Committee meeting on Thursday.

The City Council at its March 18 meeting asked the Public Safety Committee to comment on the proposal to install license plate readers at all entrances and exits to the city. Full implementation of the proposal is expected to cost more than $1 million.
The proposal comes in response to heightened public concern over crime in the wake of rising burglaries and two home-invasion robberies in one day in January.

Thursday's Public Safety Committee includes also introduction of new committee member Dana Sack, and update on Neighborhood Watch meetings, and discussion of planning for the Harvest Festival event and of the Public Safety Committee's charge. The meeting agenda, which is attached to this article, includes the charge, which was adopted by the City Council in March of last year.
