Police Blotter: Bees Buzzing, Kids Playing with Matches, Identity Theft, Mattress Fire
A generally quiet few days in Piedmont last week, although Piedmont police issued several traffic citations and animal control officers picked up a number of deceased animals. Drive carefully, folks!

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log April 29 through noon, May 3. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.
MONDAY, APRIL 29
Too many bees — A resident of the 300 block of Blair Avenue reported too many bees in the area about 1:30 p.m., many of them in her backyard.

Suspicious circumstances — A neighbor reported seeing a Hispanic man accompanied by a whte dog enter a home on Sunnyside Avenue. Police determined that the man was a contractor working at the residence.
Noise complaint — A resident reported a "loud saw" in the 200 block of Mountain Avenue about 7:20 p.m. A police officer found someone "just finishing up" with a pressure washer.

More noise — A neighbor complained of loud music in the first block of La Salle Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. The music lover was advised to turn it down.
TUESDAY, APRIL 30
Identity theft — A Harvard Road resident reported being the victim of identity theft.
Deer crossing — A caller reported a deer in the road near the intersection of Moraga and Highland avenues at 10:33 a.m. The animal had moved on by the time an officer arrived.
Vandalism — A Moraga Avenue resident reported three middle school-aged youngsters lighting matches and heading for Monticello Avenue about 4:30 pm. Police were unable to locate the children.
Bye-bye, birdie — A Wildwood Avenue resident reported a bird in the house about 4:40 p.m. An animal control officer helped get the bird back outside. Other animal-related reports of the day included a sick squirrel and a deceased opossum.
Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported seeing a flashight inside a vacant house on Magnolia Avenue. Police determined that the homeowners were doing work on the property.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 1
Secuity system alarm — Police responding to a burglar alarm activation on Mountain Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m. found the premises secure, but several deer on the property.
Traffic hazard — A caller reported that construction work near St. James Drive and Park Boulevard was creating dangerous driving conditions about 7:45 a.m. Public Works and PG&E personnel made adjustments.
Suspicious circumstances — A Sandringham Road caller reported that a Hispanic female with a baby went to the front door of a neighbor's home about 8:35 a.m. The neighbor was out of town, the caller said. Police determined that the resident was at home and the woman was the babysitter.
Those darn deer! — A Littlewood Drive resident reported a "deer problem" about 4 p.m. An animal control officer responded.
Parking citations — An anonymous caller reported illegally parked vehicles on Jerome and El Cerrito avenues at 4:31 p.m. Police issued four citations.
Suspicious circumstances — An Oakland Avenue resident reported seeing an African American man entering a neighbor's home shortly before 8 p.m. and said she "knows the neighbor." Police determined that the man lives at the home in question.
THURSDAY, MAY 2
False alarm — Police responded to a burglar alarm on Estates Drive about 8:40 a.m. and found that the resident had propped a door open for the dog.
Blocked driveway — A Mesa Avenue resident reported a black truck blocking her driveway about 2:10 p.m. Turns out the truck belongs to her gardener.
Fire report — The Piedmont Fire Department extinguished a mattress fire on Wildwood Avenue about 6 p.m. and asked for a follow-up report by the police department.
Suspicious circumstances — A Seaview Avenue resident reported a man knocking on the front door, then using a leaf blower about 7:40 p.m. It appears the man was the gardener.
