Police Blotter: Burglar Tries Door When Resident Home, Rec Center Theft

The Piedmont police blotter from April 26 through noon April 29 includes a Rose Avenue resident reporting a burglar trying to get in the rear door, kids drinking on the field house at Piedmont High and a theft at the Recreation Center.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter below were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Friday, April 26

Produce seller – At 4:41 p.m., police received a complaint from a woman about a man selling produce. An officer contacted the man in the 300 block of Jerome Avenue and advised him of Piedmont city laws.

Juveniles caught drinking – At 11:33 p.m., police logged a report of group of kids drinking on top of the field house at Piedmont High School. Two were contacted by officers at Windsor Gate. One was transported home and the other released to parents.

Burglar reported – At 10:24 p.m., police received a report from a resident in the 900 block of Rose Avenue that a male about 5 feet, 9 inches tall was trying to get in through the rear door. Responding police searched for the person.

Loud party – At 10:47 p.m., police received a complaint from a resident in the 1000 block of Rose Avenue about a loud party in the area. A responding officer located a party in the first block of Greenbank and contacted the responsibles, who shut down the party.

Sunday, April 28

Suspicious circumstances — At 11:36 a.m., an officer reported "on view" suspicious circumstances in the 100 block of Lake Avenue. (Editor's note: See "Police Will Hire Outside Consultant to Investigate Complaint of Racial Profiling" for more about this incident.)

Theft at Recreation Center – At 6:23 p.m., police logged a report of an iPod and Bose speakers taken from the Recreation Center on Hillside Avenue about 2:30 p.m. No information on suspects was available.

Found bicycle – At 7:04 p.m., police reported finding at kid's bicycle left at the playground area of 50 Artuna Ave.

Car fire – At 10:16 p.m., a 911 call reported a car with flames under the hood in the 100 block of Bonita Avenue. The fire was put out.

Monday, April 29

Baby squirrels suffer mishap – At 9:55 a.m., a citizen reported that two baby squirrels fell out of a nest in the 700 block of Highland Avenue.
