Crash Near Poway High Sends Man to the Hospital After Vehicle Lands on its Roof

Alcohol may be a factor in the single-vehicle crash Friday night.

A 24-year-old man was hospitalized after the vehicle he was driving on Espola Road near Poway High School overturned and landed on its roof Friday night, according to Lt. Jim Walker of the San Diego Sheriff's Department. A high blood alcohol content may have been a factor in the crash, Walker said.

The crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Espola Road and Titan Way. The vehicle was travelling northbound on Espola at a high rate of speed when it hit a signal pole with enough force to tear off the entire passenger side of the vehicle, Walker said.

“The vehicle came to rest approximately 50 yards north of the intersection upside down,” Walker said.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found the man trapped inside the vehicle. Fire crews got him out and he was transported to Palomar Hospital for medical treatment that appeared to be minor, Walker said.

“The blood alcohol content was very high. The investigation is continuing,” Walker said.
