New Captain Announced for Poway Sheriff’s Station

Capt. Mike Hernandez will replace Capt. Mark Elvin, who was promoted last month.

The vacancy at the Poway Sheriff’s Station created when Capt. Mark Elvin was will be filled by Capt. Mike Hernandez, whose promotion and transfer will be effective Friday, according to the department.

Hernandez comes to Poway after serving as a lieutenant assigned to the East County Gang Task Force and has worked as the 4S Ranch Substation commander. According to the department, it’s likely Hernandez will continue to work for the gang task force while also serving as Poway’s captain.

The department said a lieutenant for the gang task force should be found within the next three weeks.Β
