Seven Arrested at Checkpoint in Poway

Deputies check drivers on Pomerado Road Friday night, looking for drunken and unlicensed drivers.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted a DUI and driver-safety checkpoint in the 14400 block of Pomerado Road Friday night. Of the 669 motorists contacted during the checkpoint, nine were evaluated for DUI and three were arrested, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

An additional four drivers were arrested and five cited while driving on a suspended license or driving without a license with a prior conviction. Twelve vehicles were impounded during the checkpoint that lasted from 7 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., according to the Sheriff's Department.

Approximately 15 DUI-trained deputies worked the checkpoint, which was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
