Three DUI Arrests at Poway Checkpoint
Deputies stopped drivers on Poway Road, checking licenses and looking for signs of impairment.

As part of a Labor Day weekend crackdown on drunken driving, sheriff’s deputies conducted a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in the 13000 block of Poway Road Sunday night, according to the department.
Three drivers were arrested for suspicion of DUI, and four were arrested for driving with a suspended license, according to a sheriff’s report.
Of the 937 vehicles that drove through the checkpoint, 681 were contacted by deputies checking driver’s licenses and looking for signs of impairment. Deputies directed 30 vehicles to a secondary-inspection area, where six field sobriety tests were given.

Other citations were issued for various violations, including one for open container, one for providing false identification and 13 for driver’s license offenses. Five vehicles were towed, according to a sheriff’s report.
The checkpoint was part of Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest., a national crackdown led by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The detail was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the NHTSA.
