5 Things: Free Smoothies, Puppy Mill Ban & the Scare Team

Your kids will think you're the best parent ever, and it won't cost you a thing.

A little help for your hump day comes in the form of free smoothies, monsters and a company's cool idea to swap steering wheels for joysticks—in real life.

What you need to know for Wednesday in Rancho Bernardo and 4S Ranch:

  1. Free Smoothies: Jamba Juice is offering free 9.5-ounce smoothies for kids from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its Carmel Mountain (11738 Carmel Mountain Rd.) and 4S Ranch (10562 Craftsman Way) locations. Your kids will think you're the best parent ever, and it won't cost you a thing. Win-win.
  2. No More Puppy Mills: The San Diego City Council gave the final OK for a ban on puppy mills. One pet shop owner protested, saying the industry is regulated and the pets he sells are treated well. The measure passed 6-2, with Councilmembers David Alvarez and Sherri Lightner dissenting.
  3. A Joystick-Operated Golf Cart?: This could make your future trips to the Rancho Bernardo Inn even better. The Vision Golf Cart, which swaps a joystick for a steering wheel, is being designed in Carlsbad. The so-called "golf cart of the future" has a host of cool features, detailed at Carlsbad Patch.
  4. Yes, We Know San Diego is the Best: BuzzFeed is jealous of all of the things that make our city great. Who could blame them? Perfect weather, great food, beaches and our cute seals. They came up with 27 things that make San Diego great. What would you add to the list?
  5. Hang Out with the Scare Team: Don't forget to grab your blankets and chairs this Thursday to watch Monster's, Inc. at RB Community Park.
