Here are three of the top stories in Rancho Bernardo-4s Ranch today:
- The RB Community will be disappointed! RB Alive! has been canceled. The North San Diego Business Chamber has begun notifying participants. Chamber president and CEO Debra Rosen stated that “While disappointed, it became clear that we had to cancel RB Alive! for 2022. The rising production costs to host an event of this magnitude are prohibitive, and it became challenging to cover the event costs and labor. Fingers crossed, it is better next year, and we can get back on track. We are disappointed as well.” To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
- The City’s plans would diminish the role of the RB Planning Board. Supporters say the changes would make the groups more transparent and less likely to oppose dense developments. Critics say the changes would severely burden the volunteer groups and create membership goals akin to quotas. “I do not know what the end product will be,” said Vicki Touchstone, a Rancho Bernardo Planning Board member who has served on-and-off since the late 1980s. “I’m concerned and want to make sure there are planning boards at the end of this.” Some planning group members called the changes too extreme, but others said they are necessary to make the groups more diverse and more reflective of the communities they represent. - Need help getting started on your computer? Now you can get assistance at the 4S Ranch Library. You can arrange a tech help appointment and drop-in service for 15 minutes of free one-on-one assistance. “We want people to feel welcome to come to the library and not be afraid to learn and ask for help when they come to print résumés, complete schoolwork, or other projects with which they need help in any way,” library tech Sergio Ordonez said. The service will cover phones, tablets, and laptops. The assistance is for learning and developing basic technology skills, not computer repair, coding, or virus problems. “(Patrons) are excited about it, especially the kids,” Ordonez said.
