  3. San Diego County Public Defender Seeks Nominations for Remarkable Teens. Initiated in 2019, the program highlights youths ages 13 through 19 who are phenomenal at something they do. Some of the categories for this year’s awards include community service, leadership, writing, art, innovation and the courage to overcome adversity. The goal of the program is to celebrate teens for their positive accomplishments and showcase the many ways they contribute to the success of their community. (Press Release Desk)
  4. Poway, Rancho Bernardo residents cast in “Tanner Maverick’s Book of Sound.” Four Poway residents plus a Rancho Bernardan are in the cast of a new musical making its world premiere in Escondido over the next three days. The show is a full-length, original musical that addresses “the social and mental battles that are commonly fought by every generation.” It is rated PG-13. The show can be seen at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 14 plus 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at the The Ritz Theatre, 301 E. Grand Ave. in Escondido. Tickets are $20. Purchase at TheRhinehartBrothers.com. 5. Undefeated Rancho Bernardo field hockey team looking forward to a full season. Some teams were lucky enough to play games in double figures. Others weren’t so lucky, playing just a handful of games in what was called Season 1 when sports returned to action because of coronavirus and the statewide lockdown. Now, though, all sports are back in their normal seasons, including field hockey, a fall sport. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  6. Opinion: Palomar College is waiting for full FDA approval before requiring COVID-19 vaccines. Our repopulation plan for the upcoming fall semester at the main campus in San Marcos and our education centers in Fallbrook, Rancho Bernardo and Escondido is best described as a phased approach that prioritizes the health and safety of our students and employees. The development of our COVID-19 Recovery Plan, which largely impacts the fall 2021 semester, began well before the start of the calendar year. (Subscribe: The San Diego Union-Tribune).
