1. You may have seen him holding a sign in hopes of obtaining a new kidney. “I come in the late afternoon, usually, and I wave to the cars, wave to people in the cars. Some wave before I do," said Smiley. Having been on dialysis for eight years, the 71-year-old has Berger’s Disease. Smiley is not giving up. He hopes to find a kidney donor. 2. It started on the roof of a medical building. Firefighters put down a fire at the building on Via Tazon on Monday evening. All personnel were safely evacuated from the building in the Rancho Bernardo neighborhood. SDFD Battalion Chief Dave Pilkerton provided details.
