2 Suspects In Custody For Redondo Beach Home-Invasion Robbery

One victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — Two New York men were in custody, accused of staging a home-invasion robbery at a Redondo Beach home Sunday that sent one victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

Redondo Beach police received word about 5:50 a.m. Sunday that someone was pointing a firearm at another person inside a vehicle but the caller hung up before providing the location, Redondo Beach Police Department Lt. Vince Dileva said.

The location was traced to the 1900 block of Mathews Avenue, where officers learned two residents were the victims of a home-invasion robbery, Dileva said. The suspects had fled the home on foot just before officers arrived.

"Officers gave chase and were able to safely take the two suspects into custody without further incident," the lieutenant said. "The investigation revealed that the victims had been bound by the suspects inside their home for an extended period of time prior to the suspects fleeing the location on foot."

Redondo Beach Fire Department paramedics treated two victims at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and one of them was taken by ambulance to a hospital with stable vital signs, Dileva said.

The two suspects were identified as 31-year-old Jesus Velez from Rochester, New York and 21-year-old Draven Luna from Queens, New York. Both were booked at the Redondo Beach jail on charges including suspicion of robbery, burglary and kidnapping. Sheriff's inmate records show their bails are each set at $1 million.

It does not appear there are outstanding suspects or that there is an ongoing threat to the community, Dileva said.
