REDONDO BEACH, CA -- The construction on the Shade hotel, a luxury boutique hotel, in Redondo Beach has been completed, the company announced Wednesday.
Developed by owner and restaurateur Michael Zislis, this is Shade’s second location in the beach communities. The hotel sits on the water’s edge and is located between the marina and bicycle strand. The original Shade in Manhattan Beach is listed in 2011 by Condé Nast Traveler as the No. 6 reason to visit LA.
Architectural firm Ware Malcomb provided design services for the three-story, 50,700-square-foot, 54-room hotel and a separate three-story, 11,600-square-foot event building.

“This new hotel truly lives up to the extraordinary reputation of the original, while also establishing a distinct presence of its own in Redondo Beach,” Ware Malcomb's Tom Myers said. “Shade is designed to be a coastal oasis for guests, while also providing an unparalleled special event venue in Southern California.”
Both the hotel and event buildings are wood framed with a smooth plaster finish and frosted glass railings throughout. The design incorporates several Shade signature features including whale-bone fins and high sloping roof elements with stainless steel fascias, as well as a granite entry portal to the hotel.
