Analysts attribute to the decreases to declining costs of crude oil; the price of a barrel of benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude on the New York Mercantile Exchange has dropped 12.1 precent from its two-year high of 113.93 on April 29.

Western States Petroleum Association spokesman Tupper Hull says crude oil costs can account for up to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gas.
