The recent decline in gas prices may be due to the decreasing cost of crude oil, according to analysts. Crude oil prices can account for up to three-quarters of the cost of a gallon of gas.

Crude oil costs have dropped about 17 percent in the past two weeks because of lessening fears of refinery and supply disruptions from flooding by the Mississippi River; the increased value of the dollar; and less conflict in oil-producing countries in the Middle East, said American Automobile Club of Southern California spokesman Jeffrey Spring.
Spring also said that prices should keep declining into Memorial Day Weekend.
