Gas Prices Just Above $4 Per Gallon

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County fell seven-tenths of a cent Sunday to hit $4.015.

This is the 30th consecutive day of decreases. Before the streak began in May, the price of gas increased 43 times in 45 days.

The current average price of a gallon of gas is slightly more than 5 cents less than it was last week and 27.4 cents less than it was at this time last month; however, it's still about 97 cents higher than it was at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

According to analysts, since its two-year high of nearly $114 on April 29, the price of a barrel of benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude on the New York Mercantile Exchange has fallen about 12 percent to $100.22, fueling the decreases.

Crude oil costs account for up to three-quarters of the price of a gallon of gasoline, a Western States Petroleum Association spokesman said.
