Huey Tweet Claims Gin's Endorsement; Gin Calls It a 'Mistake'
Businessman Craig Huey claims on Twitter that Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin endorsed him for Congress. Gin says he didn't and tweet is later deleted.

Contrary to a tweet sent on businessman 's official Twitter account, Redondo Beach Mayor has not endorsed Huey in the 36th Congressional District runoff election.
The tweet, sent Thursday morning, said: "Thank you Mayor of Redondo Beach Mike Gin for your endorsement yesterday!"
However, at around 5:45 p.m. the tweet was deleted. (Patch took a screenshot of the tweet before it was removed. See attached photo.)

Huey and Gin, both Republicans, ran in Tuesday's primary election to fill the seat vacated by Democratic Rep. Jane Harmon. Huey finished second in the race and will face Democrat Janice Hahn in the July 12 runoff. Gin finished fifth in the 16-candidate field.
When asked for comment on the tweet, Gin said: "It was a mistake." He later said that he and Huey "haven't even talked" about an endorsement.

According to Gin's campaign manager Charles Moran, the mayor has not decided whether he will endorse a candidate.
Craig Huey's campaign manager Jimmy Camp said the tweet stemmed from events at a "unity breakfast" hosted by the Los Angeles County Republican Party on Wednesday. Party leaders asked attendees if they would support Huey in his Congressional run and, according to Camp, Moran gave the impression that Gin would do so.
Camp also claimed that, at a previous meeting for the California Republican Party, Gin said he would stand behind any Republican who made it into the runoff.
Huey, a Tea Party candidate, lives in Rolling Hills Estates.
