DUI Checkpoint Planned for Saturday
Officers will also check for valid driver's licenses at the stop from 7:30 p.m. Saturday until 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The will conduct a traffic stop at an undisclosed location between 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the department.
Officers will be checking for valid driver's licenses and to see if anyone is driving under the influence, said Officer Jeff Mendence in the release.
Mendence also said the checkpoint is "part of an ongoing campaign" to reduce injuries and deaths from alcohol-involved crashes.

Over the past three years, driving under the influence has resulted in 84 collisions—injuring 111 people—in Redondo Beach, according to the news release.
"Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs: if we catch you driving buzzed, drunk or impaired by drugs, you will go to jail," Mendence said.

Funding for the operation is provided by a grant from the state's Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police said.
