TORRANCE, CA — Thieves are going around stealing the tailgates off of pickup trucks and reselling them, according to the Torrance Police Department.

The Torrance Police Department said in a social media post Tuesday that it's seen a recent increase in tailgate thefts. A tailgate is the hinged panel on the rear of a pickup truck that opens downwards, allowing access to the cargo area.

Officials with the department said that thieves often steal the tailgates from trucks parked in driveways, parking lots and residential areas — especially at night.
