REDONDO BEACH, CA — A Redondo Beach man was trapped on a rock hours before being rescued after being swept up in the strong current along the Kern River in Tulare County on Monday, the Visalia Times-Delta reported.
The man, Billy Lansing, 27, was floating down the river near Limestone Gramproung on a floating tube when he fell off and was swept away. The strong currents forced the man into a small cove, trapping him on a rock, prompting a swift water rescue, according to the Times-Delta.
Multiple agencies assisted in rescuing the man. This year's heavier-than-usual wet winter caused the snow melt to be heavier than usual, resulting in strong currents on many of the state's rivers.
