Suspect Who Shot At Police While Fleeing South Bay Checkpoint At Large
The shooter reportedly fled a DUI checkpoint in Redondo Beach and ran into a Hawthorne neighborhood after exchanging fire with police.
HAWTHORNE, CA — A suspect who fled a DUI Checkpoint in Redondo Beach and engaged in a shoot-out with pursuing officers in Hawthorne remained at large on Monday.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooter to contact police.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the shooting occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the 12800 block of Roselle Avenue, where Hawthorne Police Department officers had joined the chase.

According to ABC7, the suspect had been trying to evade the DUI checkpoint, prompting the chase and an exchange of gunfire in Hawthorne. The suspect then ran into a nearby neighborhood in the area near El Segundo Boulevard and Prairie Avenue.
A perimeter was established and authorities from several police departments aided in the search effort.

As of Monday evening, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Unit, which is investigating the shooting, did not release a suspect or vehicle description.
