The big news of the past week, of course, was President Barack Obama's announcement that Navy SEALs had shot and , the mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Cops & Courts
This week's was full of memorable cases: police arrested two parolees on violations after spotting them driving a U-Haul van around a neighborhood at 4 a.m.; a woman was arrested after she allegedly tried to stab her boyfriend because he cut off her Internet access; and police believe a man threatened to hurt his neighbor's gardener for making too much noise with a leaf blower.

In more serious news, police also set up a to catch drivers who had a little too much to drink at area Cinco de Mayo parties.
Sports
Both the Redondo Union High School boys and girls varsity lacrosse teams . This was the boys' first playoff victory in school history. Unfortunately, the boys fell to Loyola in Saturday's second-round game.
Politics
On Tuesday, 13 of the 16 candidates in the race for Jane Harman's vacated 36th District Congressional seat did their best to get their views across during a hosted by the League of Women Voters.
was much less crowded—only Janice Hahn, Debra Bowen and Mike Gin were invited. The forum was hosted by the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking of Hahn, , according to the most recent financial filings. Craig Huey led the Republicans, mostly due to two $250,000 loans he made to his campaign.
