Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder Offers New Electronic Filing

From Shape the Future: The San Mateo County Assessor-Clerk-Recorder has partnered with NetFile to implement a web-based program allowing for the electronic entry and reporting of the state-mandated Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700).

Mark Church, San Mateo County Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder & Chief Elections Officer, said, “The implementation of our new electronic filing system of disclosure forms will improve the transparency, efficiency and accuracy of Statement of Economic Interest while at the same time substantially reducing costs.”

Form 700 is required under the Political Reform Act which requires certain officials and employees of the county in positions designated in an agency’s Conflict of Interest code to disclose financial holdings. All those covered by this requirement can now file electronically.

Assembly Bill 2062, which went into effect in September 2012, allows local jurisdictions to eliminate the paper filing requirement for Form 700 disclosure statements and replace it with an Electronic Filing System.

“The utilization of an Electronic Filing System for financial disclosures is part of the department’s ongoing initiative to enhance the level of services our organization provides. We encourage all filers who have a filing obligation with our office to take advantage of this opportunity,” Church added.
