Identities Released Of 2 Who Died In SMC Liquor Store Fire: Police

While putting out the fire, firefighters saw two people lying inside the building who were later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Police released the identities Monday of the two people who died in a liquor store fire in Redwood City last week.

The Redwood City Police Department said the two people who were found dead in the liquor store fire after firefighters put out the flames are Benigno Nuguid Pare, 56, and Anil Kumar Sharma, 25.

At around 5:30 a.m on Nov. 3, police said firefighters responded to a fully engulfed structure fire at Avenue Liquor Store on Roosevelt Avenue.

While trying to extinguish the fire, crew members cut into the roof and saw what looked like two individuals inside the structure. The people had severe burns and exhibited no signs of life, police said.

After firefighters secured the scene and deemed the building safe to enter, officers confirmed the discovery of two dead individuals inside.

"At this time, investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire and the events leading up to the incident. It remains unknown why the individuals were inside the building when the fire began. This remains an active, joint investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available," police said.
