New Sheriff Appointed By SMC Board Of Supervisors

The board of supervisors chose between three candidates to replace the ousted sheriff at a special meeting.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors selected the new sheriff Wednesday to replace the predecessor, who they chose to remove from office in October.

The supervisors appointed Kenneth Binder as the news SMC sheriff. Binder has previously served as the interim chief of police for Gilroy and was a former undersheriff at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The Board of Supervisors began the search for a replacement after voting to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus on Oct. 14.

The supervisors chose from three candidates Wednesday after narrowing the pool down from six.

The other two candidates in the final round were David Lazar, a retired assistant chief for the San Francisco Police Department and Brian Wynn Huynh Travis, the chief of police and director of Public Safety for the Solano Community College District.
