Police Arrest Bank Robber

A bank robber is in custody after a tip from a citizen led police to where the suspect was hiding out.

Late Monday morning, around 11:05 a.m., Redwood City Police received word that a bank robbery had just occured at the BBVA Compass Bank, located at 660 Woodside Road.

Employees informed police that a suspect had entered the bank and vaulted the counter, and demanded money from the bank employees.

The suspect threatened to shoot the employees if they did not comply.

The suspect opened a cash drawer and took an undisclosed amount of cash, then reportedly fled the bank on foot and ran northbound on Oxford Street.

An alert citizen saw the suspect run into an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Oxford Street and notified officers of his direction of travel.

Officers and detectives then began an area search and located the suspect hiding in an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Hudson Street.

The suspect, Kendrick Roby, a 24-year-old transient, was taken into custody without incident and the stolen money was recovered.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

Roby was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for robbery.
