San Mateo Co. Crews Keep Battling Edgewood Fire, Holding At 20 Acres

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The Edgewood Fire that prompted evacuation orders Tuesday was 20 percent contained and holding at 20 acres, San Mateo County fire officials said Wednesday morning.

The evacuation orders issued Tuesday afternoon in areas of Redwood City near Highway 280 had been downgraded to warnings. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Nearly 10,000 residents in the Peninsula were left without power Tuesday.

The fire, which broke out before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Edgewood Road and Crestview Drive, quickly spread between Cañada Road and California Avenue. It burned mostly grass, brush and oak, according to Cal Fire CZU.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Cal Fire used a large air tanker, six tankers, three helicopters and a lead plane to battle the flames. Two strike teams consisting of 10 fire engines, along with three hand crews remained on the scene overnight.

Ten engines and two hand crews were expected to be on the fire Wednesday.
