Stolen Credit Cards Discovered During Traffic Stop: Police

Peninsula authorities said stolen credit cards and other sensitive information were discovered on a passenger after a routine traffic stop.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Stolen credit cards and other sensitive information were recovered after a routine traffic stop in unincorporated Redwood City, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said a deputy pulled a vehicle over for a mechanical issue while on patrol on El Camino Real around 1 a.m. Monday. The deputy learned the passenger was a Redwood City man on probation for theft and conducted a probationary search.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputy found multiple stolen credit cards and personal documents during the search and arrested the passenger on suspicion of felony theft and fraud.

Officials said the deputy connected with one of the victims, an elderly woman who had her card stolen, and investigators are working to contact the other rightful owners.
